Thank you for the great notes! I have put an order in for the gate. Thanks for the link!
After you left, the best thing happened. Our neighbor kid from across the street knocked and we had a great session of practice just after practicing with you at the door when you forgot your sunglasses. With the neighbor kid, she went right back into jump mode not once, but twice. Finally, at the third attempt, she got it! We then practiced two more times of knocking at the door and she knocked it out of the park.
After that, Terry and I went out the front door to take her on a walk up Powell Butte and met some more neighbors outside who were willing to help with training. She jumped once, then on the next attempt got it perfect. It was such a great reinforcer of what we had just practiced. We will keep working on it to continue to reinforce what she has started to learn!
At class tonight we practiced “leave it” and it went well. We will continue to work on everything we have discussed, including keeping her busy and exercised.
A major transition will be next week when the kids go back to school and there is no one in the house. We will see how it goes! I will let you know, and a month or two down the road if we are having any major issues still I will give you a call!
Thanks for all of your help! It was really beneficial!
I just thought I would give you a quick update on Rosco. I have been at the beach with my family and Rosco since Monday and I just wanted to let you know that he is doing really well! The first day or two were a little rough and he wasn’t quite sure about the beach but as he got more comfortable he has gotten so much better. Today we went for a long walk on the beach the weather wasn’t very nice so the beach was pretty empty. We did come across a few families walking and we moved farther up the shore to gain more space between us and the people which really helped to calm him down and avoid a reaction. Even if there was a dog in the group! so far this week “Find it” has been our best friend and it has really helped to re-direct his attention. I think this trip has been good for both him and me we have been able to practice lots of the exercises you have taught us in a variety of situations.
